Certified PROFINET Engineers Course in South Africa

 The PROFIBUS/PROFINET Competence Centre of South Africa recently ran two Certified PROFINET Engineers in a row at Siemens South Africa.
Using tools such as Netilities from PROCENTEC, the delegates were able to quickly understand the structure of their PROFINET network. They are able to configure their devices to match their setup in the controller. Configuration of the S7-1200 PROFINET controller from Siemens is done in TIA Portal.


Migrating from PROFIBUS to PROFINET is covered in the training and is shown to be quite seamless with COMbricks from PROCENTEC.
In addition to this, COMbricks users can permanently monitor their PROFIBUS installation. Remote access and alarms are also possible. The modular nature of COMbricks allows the user to add slave, IO, fibre optic, PA, scope and repeater modules.
Tapping into the network teaches the delegates the fundamentals of the PROFINET protocol. Start-up procedures and diagnostics messages are recorded using Wireshark, a tool that the delegates get to configure to suit it for PROFINET applications. To capture these messages delegates connect the provided laptops to the network switch and enable port mirroring. ProfiTap from PROCENTEC allows the user to capture messages, verify connections and performance of IRT applications. It works really well with the Netilities tool mentioned above.





What if you don’t have PROFIBUS or PROFINET?
Anybus X gateways allow you convert between other fieldbuses and industrial Ethernet Protocols. Getting a Modbus device is easy with the Anybus Communicator from HMS. You’ll find these on the training rigs too.

The training was well received, and the delegates all received an International PROFINET certification and will soon be able to find themselves listed amongst the elite PROFINET Engineers listed at PROFIBUS/PROFINET International. IDX 8 Tag Manager - Managing the unmanagable?

Tag management of real-time data systems can prove challenging. As an industrial IT company we frequently come across the problem where tags need to be migrated from one system to another or where tags need to be synchronised and maintained between systems including historians. Generally, this ends up being a manual process, often involving Excel and much diligence and patience of the maintainer’s behalf. How to connect to a Pepperl & Fuchs Advanced diagnostics module (ADM) using RS485 and Pactware

Quick guide to get access to the P+F advanced diagnostic module via RS485 and COM converter. In order to do this, you need an RS485 converter which can convert RS485 to either ethernet or USB. I used a device from HMS (Anybus) called the Serial Server ( AB7701 ). This device connects to RS232, 422 or 485 and makes the data available over ethernet to your computer using a virtual com port. Connect the converter to the Diagnostic bus connection on the Pepperl & Fuchs fieldbus power hub 1. Once you have the com port available on your PC, Check the comport number via “manage my computer” Make sure that the FieldConnexd Diagnostic server (FDS) is running.
